The European Commission
The European Commission implements decisions, proposes legislation to Parliament and the Council, upholds the Union's treaties and Community law, negotiates international agreements, and carries out many of the routine tasks involved in the running of the Union.It upholds the general interest of the Union and is the driving force in the Union's institutional system. The main features of the Commission's web site are:
- the latest official press releases, photos and live TV coverage of EU affairs
- details of forthcoming events
- links to the policies administered and implemented by the Commission
- the possibility of influencing the decision-making process
- easy access to its organisation (meetings, work programme, contacts...)
- direct links to its key information services
The Commission's websites are developed by the various Directorates General and services of the Commission.
Thinking Europe took place in Riga, Latvia, November 6th, 7th, 8th, 2008. Latvia's accession to the European Union took place on 1 May 2004.
